What are different types of Kidney Stones?

There are many types of Kidney Stone.Most common are:

Calcium Stones specially Calcium Oxalate Stones

  1. Uric Acid Stone
  2. Infection Stones

What can I do to keep from getting kidney stones again?

One simple thing you can do is to drink plenty of water. You might also need to change what you eat, depending on what your kidney stones were made of. If so, your doctor or nurse can tell you which foods to avoid. Your doctor or nurse might also prescribe you new medicines to keep you from having another kidney stone.

Can cranberry juice or other cranberry products prevent bladder infections?

The studies suggesting that cranberry products prevent bladder infections are not very good. But if you want to try cranberry products for this purpose, there is probably not much harm in doing so.

What is dialysis?

Dialysis is a process of filtration of blood to remove waste, excess salt and water.

There are 2 types of Dialysis.

  1. Hemodialysis
  2. Peritoneal Dialysis

Is Kidney Failure Permanent?

Usually, but not always. It is possible for some acute renal diseases to get better after treatment. In some cases of acute renal failure, dialysis may only be needed for a short time until the kidneys get better.
In chronic or end stage kidney disease, kidneys do not get better and you will need dialysis for the rest of your life.

Where can a new kidney come from?

A new kidney can come from a:

  • Living donor – A living donor is usually a family member or friend. He or she can be related to you, but doesn’t need to be. A living donor can also be someone you don’t know, but this is not as common and not legally allowed in Pakistan.
  • Dead donor – If you don’t have a living donor, you can get on a list to get a kidney from a dead donor. An organization called “UNOS” keeps this list. This facility is not available in Pakistan.

What is a kidney transplant?

When you get a kidney transplant, a healthy kidney is placed inside your body to do the work your own kidneys can no longer do

How long do hemodialysis treatments last?

The time needed for your dialysis depends on:

  • how well your kidneys work
  • the type of dialysis you opt for
  • how much fluid weight you gain between treatments
  • how much waste you have in your body
  • how big you are
  • the type of artificial kidney used

Usually, each hemodialysis treatment lasts about four hours and is done twice times per week.

What is hemodialysis?

With hemodialysis, a machine takes over the job of the kidneys. Blood is pumped from the body, filtered through a dialysis machine, and then returned to the body.
